Well, the second to last week of my time in Florence has come to an end. I am excited to go home, it’s just about all I can think about, other than my finals.
This weekend my roommate and I took a trip to Rome. The architecture and history was incredible to see, but part of me was let down by the state of the city. There was a lot of trash in the streets, far more than Florence. I find it so hard to believe that people still litter, especially in a city as old and beautiful as Rome. There was also a lot of graffiti on some of the buildings which took away from the beauty of the city. We saw the Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Roman Forum, then ate some lunch and booked an earlier train back to Florence. We left for Rome at 5:45 in the morning, so we were pretty tired by 2 in the afternoon. The train ride back was one of the smoothest I’ve had so far, and I was able to get some sleep on it.
Other than that, I’ve been pretty focused on my school work. Having a second class has added a lot to my day, especially since my first is from 8:50-12 and my second is from 3-6. This means most of my day is spent in class which makes it harder to make time for studying and fun. I’ve done well on my exams and quizzes so far, and I’m really hoping I can keep that up through the end of the term.
In my FUA class I’ve made some really interesting dishes and tasted some pretty great wines. I didn’t think I’d enjoy wine, but this class has opened my eyes to just how many types there are. We’ve also made interesting recipes with things like squid, stale bread, and GIANT tomatoes. I hope to make some of the dishes we’ve made in class at home in a couple weeks.
As I am writing this it is the last week of the trip. My next update will tell you all about my finals and packing!
