Post 3: First Weeks in Florence

I am now well into my trip and am finally feeling like I’ve got my bearings around this beautiful city.
My first week was spent exploring the city itself and quickly discovering that there’s probably about 4,000 restaurants and they are all excellent. I made some amazing friends within the first few days in which we all bonded over our collective trauma of our first international flights. The first Sunday of every month there’s free entry to most museums so my new friend group and I tried as many as possible. We went to the Academia Gallery museum and saw the Statue of David which 100% lives up to the hype. It was beautiful and breathtaking and we stood there forever as my art history friend told us all about Michealango and his career.
My second week in Florence is when I established my favorite restaurants, one being the Rooster Café, which I highly recommend if you go to Florence and get homesick. It has some of the best American brunch food like French toast, huge pancake stacks, burgers, chicken and waffles, and so much more. The employees are all extremely nice especially if you’re a student! I also went to the Gucci Garden which was equally amazing and extremely unique. Buying anything from the gift shop costs as much as a downpayment on a house but, admission is cheap.
I’m truly loving my time here. Of course there’s times where I feel homesick, mainly when there’s no AC, but it often gets overshadowed by the wonderful friends I’ve made since I’ve arrived. I’m a little shy when first meeting people especially by myself so the fact that I was able to meet as many people as I have and actually do stuff with them daily to the point where I’m exhausted by the end of the day is more rewarding than expected. I’m attaching photos the sites, beauty, and tastes of Florence but you really have to experience it for yourself!
