Week One in Paris

Today marks the end of the first full week of the USF Paris Program!

I wanted to explore Paris a little on my own before the program started, so I arrived a few days early and stayed in Le Marais, in the 4th arrondissement. Le Marais has a wonderful neighborhood feel with great shops, restaurants, and galleries at every turn. One of my favorite spots for lunch “á emporter” is Restaurant Pitzman on Rue Pavée, where overstuffed falafel sandwiches can be ordered to-go from the owner at the walk-up counter. I used these few days to wander around and find wonderful little spots including this charming little garden at Église Protestante Luthérienne Saint-Jean in the 7th arrondissement.

One of my favorite aspects of Paris has been the wonderfully unexpected street art.

The program began on Tuesday with check-in at Cité Universitaire, in the 14th arrondissement,  which has dorms housing students from around the world.

Early mornings are my favorite part of the day and I want to make sure that I am still making time to exercise every day. I brought a travel mat to practice yoga in my room before walking around Parc Montsouris, right across the street from Cité Universitaire.

There are a lot of options to travel both individually and as a group. We visited Opéra Bastille to see a performance of Richard Strauss’ Elektra and a few classmates took an excursion to the Eiffel Tower.

Next week I’ll update you on our trip to see Chartes Cathedral and Fountainbleau – stay tuned!
