For the first weekend in Italy, I had planned a trip to Venice. This city made me feel like I was in a movie – it was beautiful. My extended family lives in Italy and travel here at least once a year and they were very excited for me to experience the wonderful city. It was very different from Florence because of the size and it being a “water city”.
My friends and I took a gondola tour, explored the city, and tried new foods. Who would have known I like cuttlefish? We traveled the weekend that Italy was in the quarter finals for soccer, which was very exciting to watch with so many locals cheering for their home country. The city has many different boutiques and souvenir shops that we had to shop at least a little! I found small handmade glass figurines that I will be bringing home to my sister and friends. One of my friends has traveled to Venice when he was younger and his dad suggested we try a restaurant called Timon. We had lamb chops which was still my favorite meal I have had since I have been in Italy. Our trip was spectacular.
Since I have not posted since I have arrived in Europe, I can now compare Venice to the other cities I visited so far, including Rome, Positano, Pompei, Amalfi, Sorrento, and Capri. Positano, Amalfi, and Capri are the closest cities to Venice because of them being near the water. Out of all of these, Positano was my favorite by far.
