Hi everyone, my name is Yanelis Tapia I’m majoring in Biomedical Science and I’m currently in my last year of school. For my study abroad I chose the Science in Florence program, because I thought it would a great experience while also completing my degree’s requirement and being my last year, I thought I should take advantage of this opportunity. This first week has exceeded my expectations from reality. The city is beautiful, the people here are nice and friendly, and the culture is very different from back home. The streets are nothing compared to Miami or Tampa and everyone walks here, something I don’t see back in Florida. I’ve also met new people and made friends, both from the program and locals here. The locals love Americans so they are very welcoming, they try to practice their English with us as well as us practice Italian with them.
On our first day a group of us went to Rome and we visited two famous landmarks the Trevi fountain and the Colosseum, and we did some sightseeing. After a couple of hours we took a train to Florence, after almost missing our train! It’s is a very historical place, there is so much to do and learn in every street. There are museums, there’s a garden, and plenty of restaurants that we all want to visit. For this week, I think want to visit Ponte Vecchio and the Galileo museum because I’ve always been intrigued by how people started asking questions about how life works and using the tools they have to answer them
