Hello, My name is Jake Vigilante, and I am a third-year Marketing major with an International Business Minor. I will be studying at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea and I am excited to share my journey this semester. I am a recipient of the Ellsworth G. Simmons Scholarship for International Leadership and I am thankful for the opportunity!
Throughout my life, I have always been interested in learning about cultures whether it be indigenous communities or culturally rich communities like Italy. Growing in Florida I have never really had the first-hand experience of any diverse communities. Through my career in marketing, I aspire to bring a new a diverse mindset to the table while keeping up with the ever-changing marketing world and advances in technology. I chose Seoul because it not only provides a diverse community but also provides high-quality education in a fast-paced environment. I constantly strive to challenge myself and learn new skills which will differentiate me from others.
There are many things I hope to accomplish studying abroad this semester. I hope to immerse myself in the culture and learn about the history while also taking into account how quickly society is changing. Academically and professionally, I strive to be able to read and write in Korean by the end of the program while maintaining my mentorship and classes.
As my program starts this upcoming week next, I plan on sharing my experiences with the Korean quarantine and my first taste of the city! I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to travel and study abroad furthering my education during a pandemic. This is my first time leaving the country and I couldn’t be more excited. I would also like to thank the Simmons family once again for their scholarship and for enabling me to have my first experience abroad amid these tough times.
Below are a couple of photos from my first couple days out of quarantine and my University with much more to come in the next weeks as I get out and explore!
Thank you for reading,
