Week 5-8: Backpacking Europe – 13 Countries

Some friends and I decided to take the opportunity to see the rest of Europe. We stayed in hostels around Europe after the Ireland program ended. This part of the blog is not considered Study Abroad, but I wanted to share. We started in London, then on to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Venice. What a trip it was!

Crossing Abbey Road in London. We got to see the studio in use while they tracked music for a film score.

Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris

Taking a canal tour of Amsterdam after visiting the Anne Frank House
Hanging out in Amsterdam, Netherlands
Peeking through a hole in the Berlin Wall

Some porcelain and gold at the Charlottenburg Palace outside West Berlin
Beautiful ceiling at Charlottenburg
Cool architecture in Prague, Czech Republic
Old Town Square in Prague. That’s the Astronomical Clock on the left.
I can attest that Vienna, Austria has the best wiener schnitzel – better than Germany.
Lots of good beer in Central Europe
Took a day trip to old former-communist Bratislava, Slovakia. We’re behind the Iron Curtain now!
Streets of Bratislava, Slovakia
Hanging out in Budapest – You’ll never go hungry in Hungary!
Ceiling of St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest
Hungary uses Forints rather than the Euro – it’s weird buying a bottle of water for 1,000 Forints but that’s only like 2 bucks.
Budapest is a party town, but it has a lot of history as well.
Soviet-era propaganda somewhere in Eastern Europe
Venice, Italy
That was some mean gelato right there

What a summer I had. I saved up for a long time to take this trip and it was worth every penny. 13 countries, 9 planes, 6 trains, 3 boats, and 15,000 miles later it’s great to be home in the good ol’ USA. Until next time, Euope. Peace out. – Eric

Home. Lol, look at that dude in the background.
