It’s our final week in Italy! I can’t believe this journey is already over. It feels like it’s been a long time but at the same time, the time flew by. Venice and the islands of Burano and Murano were the last trip we took this Sunday. This was an interesting day trip as we had to travel on crowded boats to go anywhere in the cities. I have to say Burano was my favorite of the three. The colorful buildings looked like they were out of a movie set. Once we got to Venice were running out of time before we had to catch our train back to Florence. On top of that, we got lost in the winding streets and canals of the city in our hunt for a gondola. Getting lost Venice was actually really fun. I didnt get to see any of the big sights of Venice but I’m not too upset about it because I know I still had a good time. You just have to be open to things when life doesn’t go according to plan, and you’ll still enjoy yourself. The gondola ride was really lovely and since we took it in the quieter part of the city we were able to take in the serenity of the canals better.
I’ve been putting off thinking about my departure from Florence for as long as possible. I don’t want to leave this place! I’ve finally gotten accustomed to the Italian lifestyle and could see myself living here long term. I’m not ready to change it all up again when I move back home. I miss some of the luxuries the U.S. has to offer like central A.C., microwaves, big supermarkets, and dryers. But at the same time, I’ve learned to live without those things and have become more flexible because of it. Oh well, it had to end some day. I’m just sad that day has come so soon.
