Hello! My name is Minnah and I’m studying aboad in Florence, Italy this summer. My major is Biomedical Sciences and I’m on a pre-med track at USF (fingers crossed for med school)! I will be going on the USF Science in Florence program and will be there by next week, thanks to the Mark and Kay Orr International Affairs Scholarship! This trip would not have been possible without the people involved in the scholarship and I’m so grateful that people like them choose to help people like me do something as spectacular as studying abroad. I have a long road ahead of me filled with rigorous academics in my journey to become a doctor, so studying abroad is a great way to see the world and experience new things while I still can, without compromising my education.
I have never been to Europe and am completely unfamiliar with the culture and customs of any of the countries in it. I’m a bit of a history fanatic though, so you can imagine how excited I am to be living in arguably the most historic place in the world, the birthplace of the renaissance. All the greats lived in Florence: Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Dante, etc. I can’t believe I can go see where they lived and all the things they created in person. I don’t mean to sound like a fangirl, but I really am stoked. Don’t even get me started on seeing Pompeii and Rome.
In this trip I hope to learn how to handle unfamiliar situations, learn to live independently, and most importantly, learn how much gelato I can handle eating in a day! I have never lived on my own before, so I’m breaking out of a lot of comfort zones right off the bat with this program. The one thing that will stay consistent are my classes, which I am surprisingly excited for. But hey, it’s not hard to get excited about anything that is done in Florence, Italy.
Wish me luck, as I will be traveling very soon! I will now bid you adieu, or rather, CIAO!
