Hello fellow travelers!
My name is Angie Ocampo and I am finishing up my sophomore year this summer with a study abroad trip to Florence, Italy. I am a pre-med student majoring in biomedical sciences with a minor in public health. My goal is to attend medical school at USF and become a cardiologist. The scholarship that I received is the Genshaft/Greenbaum Passport Scholarship Endowed Fund. The program I am apart of this summer is ‘Science in Florence’. I will be taking biochemistry and a food and culture class.
Before starting college I knew I wanted to study abroad at some point in my college career. For starters, I love to travel and explore new places that are out of my comfort zone. Whenever possible, I like to immerse myself in a new culture and to try to accommodate to the lifestyle of the locals. One of my lifelong dreams has been to visit Europe, but more specifically Italy. I am beyond blessed for the opportunity to be able to visit Italy this summer. I look forward to the food experience because I’ve heard Italians take pride in growing and making their food. I am also looking forward to viewing all the beautiful architecture and learning as much as I can about the history in Florence.
What I hope to accomplish on this trip is to find a balance between studying and having fun. I hope to find a more efficient way of studying that I can utilize back in USF during the regular semesters. Personally, I hope to become more outgoing and less shy about meeting and talking to new people. I hope to establish life-long friendships and international connections. Academically, I hope that I can use this experience to my advantage when applying to medical schools by becoming more cultured and diverse after finishing this trip!
I can’t wait to meet the rest of you on this trip! Safe travels to everyone! Addio!
