Meet Shar – a Dreamer and a Believer

Hi everyone,

My name is Sharleen So, but I prefer to be called Shar.

A little less than 3 years ago, I immigrated to the United States from the Philippines. Currently, I am an accounting junior at the University of South Florida, and I am on track to graduate by the fall term of 2019.

I am blessed to be a recipient of the President Genshaft/Greenbaum scholarship to aid my study abroad program in Florence this summer. The six-week study abroad program I will be attending is called the USF in Florence Business study abroad program. It is intended to build and nurture business leaders with exceptional creativity and potential.  Also, it will provide participants with a global perspective and understanding of the global business environment. During the program, I will be taking classes in business law and one elective offered by the Florence University of the Arts. Since I aspire to become a future traveling accountant, I see this program as an excellent opportunity to help me reach my goal. Not only will it teach me necessary knowledge in an international business setting, but it will also give me valuable experiences which I can take with me wherever I go.

I am a dreamer and a believer. For me, life is all about seizing opportunities and making dreams happen. Last year, I intended to join a study abroad program in New Zealand, but lack of financial support hindered this from happening. Although I felt disheartened, I continued to dream and believe that one day, I would be able to join a study abroad program. My determination led me to apply for various scholarship, and it paid off. Again, I feel blessed and honored to be a recipient of President Genshaft/Greenbaum scholarship. Although I am a bit scared to leave my comfort zone, I am excited to explore Italy and absorb its culture. I hope you follow my journey as I discover what’s in store for me this summer in Europe!

Cheers,

Shar
