Week three in Italy and I can not believe how quickly the time is passing by! Between biochemistry and shadowing physicians I didn’t think I’d ever be able to leave the general vicinity of Florence. After some serious study sessions this week me and some friends decided to pack a bag and hit the rail-road to one of Italy’s most beautiful destinations, Cinque Terre! We stayed in the beautiful village of Riomaggiore and had the most amazing view of the entire town. There were many things I was looking forward to doing while spending time in the five fishing villages, but the one I was most ecstatic for was trying the fresh calamari ! The first stop we made on our adventure was a few doors down to the local calamari shop where I ordered a fresh cup of fried squid and octopus. This was hands down the most mouth watering calamari I had ever tried in my life! Aside from being perfectly fried to a crisp and seasoned to perfection, the seafood itself was the freshest I had ever tried; having being caught that morning. Needless to say this was my new favorite town in Italy. The excitement, however, did not stop there, we embarked on an 8 hour hike the following day witnessing some of the world’s most breathtaking views on our hike between the five villages. While this was one of the more challenging things I’ve ever attempted, we topped off the day with a trip to the beach. Over all, Cinque Terre had to be one of my favorite parts of my study abroad journey thus far!
Until next time!
