As I finish my second week in Florence, I realize how fast time is flying. This week was relaxing and productive. I worked on homework assignments, but still had plenty of down time. I visited the beautiful rose garden at the Piazza de Michelangelo and it has become my favorite spot in Florence (also doesn’t hurt that my FAVORITE gelato place is nearby). I tried many different gelato places, but I can confidently say my top two are Vivaldi and Gelateria de Neri. I learned about good quality gelato in my Food, Culture, and Society class. I also learned about the origins of pasta, olive oil, and wine. In my cooking lab, I learned how to make Pappa al Pomodoro (Tuscan tomato soup) and Fagioli All’Uccelletto (cannellini bean dish). They were delicious!
I also had the opportunity to travel to Cinque Terre (the land of five towns). They are very quaint towns with a beautiful view of the water. That area is known for its pesto dishes, seafood, and lemon products. My favorite thing was fried crab claws from a tiny stand in one of the towns, Monterosso. Unfortunately it happened to be raining the day I went, but it was still an awesome experience. The picture attached is from the first town, Manarola.
