Its unbelievable that my first week in Florence is already over. I walked so much, ate so much, and explored so much. My first thoughts of Florence were how breathtakingly beautiful all the architecture was. My apartment is located near the Piazza Santa Croche where I pass the beautiful cathedral every day. I also enjoyed my first week of classes, especially getting lost the first day trying to find them. My Food, Culture, and Society class is so interesting. We have cooking labs where we cook Tuscan recipes and eat them afterwards! I also had the opportunity to go on a field trip to Parma and Modena where I watched the process of making high quality Parmesan, prosciutto, and balsamic vinegar (also enjoyed tasting everything). My favorite part was tasting balsamic vinegar aged 100 years! The food here is also incredible. I have figured out a few of my favorite local restaurants and gelaterias. I also learned how to maneuver around Italian supermarkets to buy ingredients and cook dinner for myself. Every day I find a new route to get somewhere or I find something that surprises me in Florence. I have so much more to experience in the next five weeks. I can confidently say I “got lost in Florence,” and I love every minute of it.
