I am happy to report that I am still alive! It was a bit touch and go there for a while, but I have made it out of the woods. Last week, I got incredibly sick and basically felt like a zombie. Lately I have been very stressed out, due to my thesis research, and I think that it partly contributed to me falling ill. The other half was most definitely because I was dehydrated (drink your water kids!). I was on a constant stream of rehydration salts and the Peruvian version of pedialyte. While I was bedridden for about a week, I started to think how important it is to not let your health fall to the wayside because of other things. If you don’t have your health, you don’t really have anything at all. I know I need to handle my stress better, and boy did I receive that wake-up call loud and clear. While it isn’t very difficult to find rehydration salts, the future traveler might want to bring some of their own (maybe flavored) because they do not taste great. A trick to mask the taste of the rehydration salts I picked up is to add lemon and honey to the water. It tastes so much better and is so much easier to drink.
Now that I have almost fully regained my health, I am trying to manage my stress levels better. It isn’t always easy, especially since I still have some data collection to do and that is looming over me. However, I have to keep in mind that if I fall sick again, I will definitely not be able to finish.
Here are some photos, perhaps they will serve as a de-stresser for you.
